StrikeIron’s “Ironclad” Infrastructure
Since 2003, StrikeIron has continuously innovated and invested in its Web
Services infrastructure in order to provide a state-of-the-art backbone to
deliver 24x7, high-performance, trusted, and reliable Web services to its
worldwide customer base 365 days a year.
Within a SAS-70 certified data center, StrikeIron utilizes redundant electrical
systems, sophisticated air conditioning technology, redundant premium hardware,
load-balancing technology for optimized performance and failover, remote
monitoring agents, backup data centers, 24x7 operations staff, performance and
uptime dashboard monitoring, a mobile warning alert notification system, and a
highly engineered proprietary Web services delivery platform to achieve its
vision of the “great Web services and external data cloud.” This advanced
technology enables StrikeIron to deliver an external data and Web services
solution via the Internet that our customers and partners can rely on, so they
can focus their efforts on innovating with their own businesses.
Here are some highlights of our
"Ironclad" Infrastructure:
Core Software System
StrikeIron has been continuously innovating its core software system that
serves as the “brain” of its entire Web services and data delivery platform,
employing multiple hardware resources, the latest foundational software,
application servers, data feeds, data storage clusters, external resources,
multiple billing systems, usage metering, user reports, administration reports,
logging, auditing, protocol reconciliation, and high performance delivery of
data and Web services functionality to thousands of consuming applications,
systems, and Websites by the second.
Security
StrikeIron’s data center requires double verification for access, including
biometric hand scanning, 24-hour security cameras, digital movement recording,
and other mechanisms and procedures to ensure maximum security.
State-of-the-Art Hardware
StrikeIron utilizes a network of multiple Dell QuadCore and DualCore PowerEdge
servers for maximum performance, and redundant RAID 5 storage capacity for
maximum data retrieval performance and mirrored storage reliability.
Load-Balancing
StrikeIron achieves optimal resource utilization, throughput, and response time
with multilayer-switched load-balancing technology, also enabling resource
redundancy and the ability to easily increase capacity as necessary.
Remote Service Reliability and Performance Monitoring

Multiple consumption agents from remote geographic locations constantly ping,
invoke, and inspect the Web services and their responses for services that are
available within StrikeIron’s infrastructure. This is achieved via
minute-by-minute round-the-clock reliability and response accuracy testing. The
response data from these simulation invocations are also compiled, aggregated,
and reported in real-time to optimize performance and identify potential
bottlenecks or possible service degradation so they can immediately be
serviced. Also, in the event any service reports any kind of failure, a mobile
alerting notification system is employed to dispatch engineers for immediate
escalation and rapid resolution.
Bandwidth
StrikeIron utilizes a
100 Mbps burstable bandwidth connection enabling us to easily expand our
bandwidth usage during higher traffic periods to continue delivering with
maximum response times, with more bandwidth available as necessary.
Monitored Dashboard Systems
StrikeIron’s engineers utilize multiple real-time administration dashboards and
reports to ensure uptime, maximum performance, and ongoing monitoring of system
resources, down to every CPU, hard drive, and data element.
Upstream Providers
StrikeIron maintains redundant upstream optical carrier (OC3) connections via
AT&T, Internap, and Level 3 Communications.
Electricity
In order to maintain no single point of failure with electricity, StrikeIron
employs a managed electrical system with redundant utility feeds and
transformers, redundant main switch panels with failover, and non-interruptible
power supplies. There is also a 2 megawatt diesel backup generator for added
protection.
Air Conditioning
As air conditioning is a critical component to providing continuous data
delivery of online service, StrikeIron employs a raised floor state-of-the-art
managed air conditioning solution, featuring two complete separate air
conditioning systems each capable of maintaining proper temperature. These are
fueled by redundant cooling pumps and a 10,000 gallon water tank.
So whether it’s real-time financial data, address corrections, tax rates, maps,
news, baseball scores, business demographics, SMS sending, text to voice
notifications, weather data, or any other type of data or Web service
accessible from over 120 different public StrikeIron Web services and many more
private services, you can rest assured a sophisticated, secure, reliable system
is standing by to service your digital request.
